Registry Status Codes
- ClientDeleteProhibited
- The ClientDeleteProhibited status code is assigned to a domain – typically when the domain is locked. This code will tell the registry to reject requests to delete a domain. (Unless the domain name has expired.) A domain with just this status can be updated, transferred, and renewed.
- ClientHold
- This status code tells the registry to not include your domain in the zone file and as a consequence, the domain name will not resolve. It is an uncommon status that is usually enacted during legal disputes, non-payment, or when your domain is subject to deletion.
- ClientRenewProhibited
- This status code tells the registry to reject requests to renew your domain. It is an uncommon status that is usually enacted during legal disputes or when your domain is subject to deletion.
- ClientTransferProhibited
- This status code tells the registry to reject transfer requests for the domain from your current registrar to another. This is most commonly known as “locking”, but is often accompanied by a ClientDeleteProhibited status as well.
- ClientUpdateProhibited
- This status code tells the registry to reject requests to update the domain. Many registrars will set this and then unset it before making any requests.
- OK
- This is the standard status for a domain, meaning it has no holds or restrictions. It means the domain name IS UNLOCKED, which is unadvisable unless you are transferring your domain. Domains that have an EPP status code of OK can be updated, transferred, and renewed.
- PendingDelete
- This status code is automatically set after your domain has expired, went through auto-renew grace period been in redemptionPeriod status AND if you have not restored it within that maximum 30-day period. Your domain will remain in the pendingDelete status for five calendar days from the date it entered this period, after which time your domain will be purged and dropped from the registry database. Once deletion occurs, the domain is available for anyone to register on a first come, first served basis. Do note your domain can enter PendingDelete after redemptionPeriod, but without Auto-Renew Grace Period only if the domain name was deleted before its expiration date.
- PendingRestore
- This status code indicates that the registrar has asked the registry to restore your domain that was in redemptionPeriod status. Your registry will hold the domain in this status while waiting for your registrar to provide required restoration documentation. If your registrar fails to provide documentation to the Registry Operator within seven calendar days to confirm the restoration request, the domain will revert to redemptionPeriod status. Most registrars these days do this process programmatically and PendingRestore will get updated within 24 hours.
- RedemptionPeriod
- This status code indicates that your domain name expired, it was not renewed in the allotted time and the registrar asked the registry to delete the domain. The domain will be held in this status for 30 days. After then, it will be updated with the pendingDelete status for five calendar days after which time, your domain is purged from the registry database and becomes available for anyone to register on a first come, first served basis. Note if a domain goes past RedemptionPeriod and into pendingDelete – the domain name becomes un-recoverable!
- ServerDeleteProhibited
- This status code prevents your domain from being deleted at the registry. It is an uncommon status that is usually enacted during legal disputes, or when a redemptionPeriod status is in place. This can be considered a "Registry Lock" on the domain.
- ServerHold
- This status code is set by the Registry Operator, not at the Registrar. This domain is not included in the zone file and therefore will not resolve. It is an uncommon status that is usually enacted during legal disputes or when your domain is subject to deletion.
- ServerTransferProhibited
- This status code is set by the Registry and is a part of how the Registry locks a domain. This status means that a domain cannot transfer from one Registrar to another Registrar.
- ServerUpdateProhibited
- This status code locks your domain preventing it from being updated. The most common reason that this is setup is because the domain is setup with a “Registry Lock” which costs additional money to protect a domain name a little further. This can also be enacted during legal disputes. This status will have to be removed before the domain can be transferred, deleted, renewed or nameservers changed.
